Fire Damage Restoration Protection Tips

The Los Angeles area that we serve has been having numerous wildfires.
During a wildfire, tons of toxic chemicals, poisonous gases, heavy metals and other toxins are created by the materials, household products and vegetation that burns. These contaminants fill the air, become part of the ash, and are extremely dangerous to your health if inhaled or come in contact with your skin.
As a restoration company, we forget about the dangers involved with the different environments we enter, but safety should always be a top priority.
If entering an area affected by fire or smoke, consider the following safety tips:
1.) Minimize your exposure to contaminated areas to avoid breathing air contaminated by smoke odor.
2.) Wear proper protective equipment designed to filter vapor or gasses like a proper fitting respirator with a P-100 HEPA filter.
3.) Avoid getting ash into the air as much as possible. Do not use a leaf blower or take actions that will push ash into the air.
4.) Do not use vacuums and other common vacuums cleaners because they do not filter out contaminants, but they blow them out the exhaust into the air where they can be inhaled.
